It would seem that the most recent problem appearing before us in the Net is the current conflict between the SOPA Industry and the Internet. They're attempting to alienate us, and take away our rights as not only citizens but fans as well. According to a variety or sources, the SOPA intends to make it so that, putting it simply, we can no longer use pictures of other published and well-known goods. I.E: Anime pictures, movies and other forms of popular media would not be open to use for the normal everyday citizen due to a form of "copyright infringement". It also wouldn't allow us to use any form of it in such things as photos, avtars, and profile pictures.
Mozilla developer Christian Heilmann, states that, "The internet is an incredibly powerful communication tool that keeps people connected when they are not close and gives those a voice who can't get out via official communication channels. It also allows people to be creative and be found by showing their talents in videos, music and animations." He says that if the SOPA was to become a reality and INDEED get the task they wish to become a reality, the very creativity that the internet began off of would be smashed, thus crushing the internet all together. From the root to the fruit. (As cliche and stupid that may sound.)
In another way, they're basically taking away our rights. We, as American citizens should not have to hold out tongues and watch as this happens. Heilmann also went on to criticize such countries as China, Syria and Iran, whose internet is not only run on hpocracy but also censors the freedom of speech that the American government is so proud to have created and utilized in their country. That's right folks, if this SOPA thing does actually become the nightmarish reality it wishes to be, then the very freedom of speech we have will become nearly non-existent.
Not to mention is this SOPA thing does indeed become real the internet will go into a collapse. All of the on-goingly popular websites, social sites, and search engines that we've all come to know and love will come crashing down due to lack of attention and people logging in...
There's been an eruption of commotion on such sites as Twitter, Facebook as well as others. Sites such as Yahoo!, Facebook, Google, Twitter and others sent an open letter to Congressional Leaders protesting the act. So now, the only thing that we, as a reader can do, is support them to the best of our abilities. Log onto Twitter or Facebook and spread the word. Defend out rights and keep out freedom of speech.
